“What Language Are You Speaking?”
Preparing the Soil (Introduction): For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10) Recently, I have been hearing about awesome miracles God has been doing around the world. I have heard first hand of miracles among the Aztec Indians. When I asked the missionary about them, he stated the reason he felt miracles were happening was because when the people read the Bible, they believed it. They did not have anyone telling them that God no longer works in those ways. He said if it happened in the book of Acts, they expected and saw it happen in their midst as well. With them, there was no gap between God's Word and what they believed. While talking with another missionary, he told of Jesus appearing to the Muslims in dreams and visions. When he was asked why he thought it was happening, he replied, "God speaks the language of those to whom He is speaking." He explained that in the Muslim culture, knowledge is gained more from experience than from studying.
Planting and Watering the Seed (Growth): I see a balance between the two. The Muslims gained their knowledge through experience. The Aztecs gained knowledge through studying the Word of God and then, because they believed what they read, they also were able to experience God. So what does that mean for us in America today? We definitely have the academia down very well. Yet, I think the problem we have is we really do not fully believe what we are studying. Too often we read the stories of the Bible as just that - stories instead of history. When the Bible talks of something happening, it really did happen. God has not changed. He can and does work in powerful miraculous ways, even today.
Harvesting the Crop (Action/Response): God wants to speak a new language to us. He wants to speak to us through mighty personal works that no man could accomplish. We can be a part of that work if we will have faith to step out, look for where God is working, and join Him. We need to close the gap. Is the problem in our life disbelief, disobedience, our sin, or maybe our priorities? Many things will keep God from impacting the world through us. Maybe we are waiting for some great work and miss the little things that have a huge impact on the lives of others. Today I pray God will open your spiritual eyes to the work He is doing all around us. And that we will be willing to step out, trusting Him to speak to us through mighty personal works that no man could accomplish. To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12, ESV)
