FALSE TEACHING: "The Most Evil Man You've Never Heard Of." -Todd Strandberg

By Todd Strandberg

If you asked 100 people whom they thought was the most evil man who ever lived, the majority of them would give the title to Adolf Hitler. The one-time dictator of Germany earned the distinction by being history's most documented despot.

Hitler is the one who started World War II - the most costly war in human history, which left 60 million people dead. He also implemented the Holocaust - the systematic persecution and genocide of the Jews and other groups he deemed "racially inferior" or "undesirable."
All evil springs from a revolt against God. Satan is the leader of this rebellion. Hitler sought to destroy the Jews because the devil knows that redemption history works around the Jews. If he could eliminate the Jews, then the plan of God could be derailed.

The next most recognized evil man is Joseph Stalin. At one point, he was the head of the largest dictatorship in history. While Hitler let other people do his dirty work, Stalin was directly involved in the death of millions of people.

How To Get To the Top of the Evil List
The most shocking examples of evil are always attacks against the most innocent members of society. It is always an outrage to hear of children being molested, elderly ladies being mugged and the mentally handicapped being abused.

God is the most powerful being in the universe. He is also the most innocent, being completely free from sin. Anyone who attacks the Lord is committing the most evil act possible.
Someone can wallow in the pig sty of lust, greed, and debauchery and be evil. But until they pick up a lump of mud and fling it at the Creator, they have not truly been to the dark side. Why else would it be so common for people to use the Lord's name as a curse word?
Satan loves to use men who claim to represent God as vehicles for defaming the Lord. Because the devil knows how holy God is, he may be hesitant to defame the Lord on a personal level. I don't recall anywhere in the Bible where a demonic being attacks God directly. The devil leaves this task up to man. It is like the old saying, "fools rush in where angels fear to tread."

James Eugene Ewing

I recently discovered a man who has excelled in defaming the Lord. Over a 40-year period, he has rubbed mud in God's face, and he has helped prevent millions of people from finding eternal redemption. His name is James Eugene Ewing.

Unless you found his page by doing a Google search for "James Eugene Ewing," I'm sure you have never heard of this man. You would have a better chance of catching Santa Claus coming down the chimney than you would of finding footage of Mr. Ewing. He is the type of person who likes to hide in the shadows.

According to statements from his own ministry, Ewing was born in Texas in 1933, the son of south Texas sharecroppers. He served four years in the Air Force, claiming through his magazine that "many soldiers gave their lives to Christ with Bro. Ewing kneeling by their side in airplanes, in barracks or anyplace." After his stint in the military, he chartered Camp Meetings Revivals in the Dallas area.

Ewing's tent-revival crusades were focused on healing and liberation. A full-page ad in the 1963 Tulsa World announced a "Deliverance revival: Gene Ewing coming under one of the world's largest tents."

Despite having little formal education, Ewing managed to build a massive direct-mail empire from his mansion in Los Angeles. All his ministry mail is directed to a Tulsa post office box. Ewing's computerized mailing operation, Saint Matthew's Churches, mails more than 1 million scam letters per month, many to low-income, uneducated people, while Ewing lives in a $2.2 million, 6,400-square-foot home above Beverly Hills and drives a small fleet of luxury cars.

The Germination of Seed Faith
If you watch much Christian television programming, you may have heard a preacher talking about the "seed faith" principle. This modern movement can be traced back to a meeting that Ewing had with Oral Roberts.

In 1968, donations to Roberts' ministry had plummeted after Roberts alienated many of his supporters by joining the United Methodist Church. To raise money, Roberts decided to sell the ministry's corporate airplane.

Ewing came to see Oral about buying the plane. When he arrived at the ministry headquarters, he had something to sell to Roberts. The first thing out his mouth was, "Oral, you are in trouble, and I can help you." And did he ever.

According to Wayne Robinson, then the vice president of public affairs for the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association, "Gene laid out one of the most sophisticated fund-raising campaigns I had ever seen. He said, 'Oral, I want you to write your supporters and tell them you are going in the prayer tower, and you are going to read their prayer requests and pray over them.' He stayed there three days. I forget how many hundred thousands of letters we had, but it was huge."

The core of Ewing's advice to Roberts was the seed-faith philosophy. "You give to the ministry, and God will reward you with a financial blessing."
By the following year, income to Roberts' ministry had doubled, going from $6 million to $12 million. Roberts was so happy with Ewing's guidance that he gave him the plane.

"God's Ghostwriter"
Just by helping with Oral Roberts' ministry, Ewing could be regarded as the father of the modern-day 'seed-faith' concept. Many preachers joined the health-and-wealth gospel bandwagon by emulating old Oral.
Unfortunately, Ewing did not stop the Roberts. Once word got about his magic touch, several other ministers sought his services. T.L. Osborn ran into Ewing at an airport and hired him to direct his fundraising.

"We were down to counting pencils and paper clips until Gene came along," boasted Osborn.
Ewing's flair for effective, dramatic direct-mail appeals won him jobs writing for evangelists including Robert Tilton, Rex Humbard and "Rev. Ike." In many cases, the letters were identical but contained different signatures.

The Trinity Foundation, which is run by Ole Anthony, was the first to dub Ewing as "God's Ghostwriter." Anthony managed to find a single letter that nine different televangelists had claimed as their own. The only difference was the signature.

"We had nine different televangelists essentially sending out the same letter," Anthony said. "He (Ewing) makes most of his money by selling these packages to televangelists."
Never mind the fact that many of the letters speak of revelations that God directed the sender [insert name] to give the recipient. The only name that matters to these hucksters is the one on the seed-faith check.

"Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter" (Isa. 56:11).

A Skunk by Another Name Still Stinks the Same

The most obvious evidence that Ewing is crook at heart is the number of name changes for his ministry. The vast majority of religious organizations stick with the same name; Ewing goes through a new one every few years.

Here are a few examples of ministry names that have been linked to him:
Church of Compassion
Rev. Ewing's Evangelistic Ministries Inc.
Church by Mail Inc.
Church and Bible Study in the Home by Mail
Twentieth Century Advertising Agency
Saint Matthew's Churches

The frequent name change seems to be designed to ditch the IRS. When the Feds begin to investigate one of his corporate entities, he relocates his operations under a new one.
Over the years, the IRS has questioned the legitimacy of many of Ewing's organizations, but has failed to take any action. In one court filing, the IRS argued that funds generated by Church by Mail "inure to the benefit of private individuals." Another IRS brief stated that, "Ewing and McElrath (his partner) sit at the top of a very lucrative set of organizations which they totally control without interference."

The listed address for two of Ewing ministries points to the headquarters of his lawyer, J.C. Joyce. His current ministry, Saint Matthew's Churches, was also incorporated at Joyce's Tulsa law office.

Every Gimmick Under the Sun
When I first came to faith is Jesus Christ, I spent much time listening to Christian radio. Being eager for information, I wrote to all the programs that invited listeners to contact them. Many of the men on these programs were clients of Ewing who sent me an endless series of appeals for money.

Even as a baby Christian, I could tell that these prosperity preachers were wolves in sheep's clothing. Their only purpose in writing me was to get money.
To them, the Bible is just a tool for extracting funds. While Bank jobbers use guns, they utilize Scripture to pull these heists.

Ewing came up with an endless number of gimmicks to be mailed out by ministries. What made them appealing was their context to Bible verses. Some mailings would contain items like prayer cloths, "Jesus eyes" handkerchiefs, fake golden coins, miracle water or oil, communion wafers, a prayer rug made out of paper, and "sackcloth billfolds."

To conceal these letters from family members who might have better financial sense, the recipients were told to open the letters in private and not discuss them with others: "Try to take it to a room or somewhere where you can be alone with the Lord." Other mailings asked for a donation before opening a second letter marked "Personal and private."

One mailing from Ewing included a $10,000 "faith check." The bogus check was from the "Bank of Heaven." Of course, the bank president was God, the Father, the vice president was Jesus, and the secretary and treasurer was The Holy Ghost.

"Place the faith check in your wallet and keep it there until the blessing unfolds," the letter states.
"Whisper the name of Jesus three times as you write your name on the back of your Faith Check."

A lot of Ewing's ideas seem as if they were inspired by a book of witchcraft. The Bible does not tell us to make practice of "repetitious" prayer. The Lord is not like a slot machine; you don't keep blindly pulling His arm until He finally pays off. We receive God's blessing by seeking Him on a personal level.

The Day of Reckoning
I've never been temped to go down the prosperity path. Even as I read of the wealth some of these folks have raked in, and of the luxurious lives they lead, I want nothing to do with it.
No amount of money is enough to make it worth losing your eternal soul. I can't imagine how someone who preys upon the poorest and most desperate people in our society can be regarded as Christian brothers or sisters.

"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Prov. 16:25).

The funny thing about men who are truly evil: They tend to envision themselves in a positive light. Somehow they manage to find a way to view their evil deeds as helping their victims.
I imagine that James Eugene Ewing someday expects the doors of heaven to swing wide open for him. After all, he is the one who brought great hope to people who replied to his prosperity mailings.

The reality is that Ewing has done a huge amount of damage to the Kingdom of God. The teachings that he set in motion decades ago have grown in monstrous organizations. The Trinity Broadcasting Network is a haven for evangelists who have adopted his principles. It reaches tens of millions of people around the globe.

I recently talked to one pastor from Zambia who testified that the prosperity teaching has been very destructive to the church in Africa. He confirmed that many Christians have become inactive in the faith, choosing rather to sit around and listen to American preachers.

If Ewing had any concept of the massive hole he was digging for himself, he probably would have long ago retired from the business. He continues to add to his judgment because he obviously likes swindling people.

In the end, the main anguish of hell for people like Ewing will not be caused when they roast in an eternal flame. Their ultimate pain will be when they realize how easy it would have been to do the right thing. After all, they had the word of truth, they had the ambition, they had the financial resources, and they had the organization--but they did nothing to advance the name of Jesus.

"Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!" (Mat. 18:7).

BIBLE STUDY: Proving the Existence of God pt 1

Proving the Existence of God

A Bible Study by Jack Kelley

When asked how he could be so certain that God exists, one great theologian responded with a 2 word answer, “The Jew.”

The continued survival of the Jewish people in spite of numerous and concerted efforts to exterminate them unequivocally demonstrates God’s existence, His presence in the world and His involvement in the affairs of man.

First let’s understand that the Jewish people were chosen by God to accomplish four things:

1.
To be a witness for Him (Isaiah 43:10)
2.
To show forth His blessings (Isaiah 49:3)
3.
To be a repository for His Word (Isaiah 42:9), and
4.
To be a channel for the Messiah (Isaiah 49:5-6).

Because He instilled in them a desire to be so meticulous in preserving His word, we have in the Old Testament a document that when compared to secular accounts of world history provides irrefutable evidence of God’s existence.
Is That You, God?

Let me put it this way. If someone came to you and claimed to be God, what would be the most convincing proof he could offer to convince you that he really was?

Many people I’ve asked have responded that if he could tell them things no one could know they would be impressed enough to at least give him the benefit of the doubt. When I say “What if he told you things that haven’t happened yet? And then when the events he predicted came to pass just as he described them with 100% accuracy, would that persuade you?”

Invariably the answer I get is “Yes.”

Well that’s exactly what God has done. Listen to His claim from Isaiah 42:8-9. “I am the Lord, that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place (what I told you would happen has happened) and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.”

Of all the so-called Holy Writings, only the Bible authenticates itself like this. In fact God challenges anyone else claiming to be like Him to prove himself this way. “This is what the Lord says, Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty. I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people and what is yet to come – yes. Let him foretell what will come” (Isaiah 44:6-7). If you want to be God, there’s a two-question qualification exam. First recount in detail everything that has happened in the past, and then predict everything that will happen in the future. By the way, the only acceptable score is 100%. (Deut 18:21-22)
Knowing The End From The Beginning

We call this means by which God authenticates Himself predictive prophecy. By most accounts the Bible is 30-40% predictive prophecy by volume. A lot of it has been fulfilled and is there waiting to be compared to history as evidence of God’s existence. Much more is being fulfilled right before our eyes through the Nation of Israel as irrefutable proof. But just for the purpose of illustration let me site 3 passages.

According to historical records, when Cyrus the Persian conquered Babylon in 535 BC, Daniel the prophet asked him to release the Jews who had been captive there for 70 years. “Why should I?” asked Cyrus. In response Daniel read him a passage from Isaiah written nearly 250 years earlier. In the passage Cyrus was mentioned by name, and the method by which he had just conquered Babylon was described in detail (Isaiah 45:1-7). This fulfilled prophecy persuaded Cyrus and he freed the Jews.

When Alexander the Great read Daniel’s vision of the Ram and the Goat (Daniel 8:1-8), he became convinced that the vision spoke of the way Greece had conquered Persia under his leadership, and from that time forward he afforded the Jews special treatment. Upon entering Jerusalem, Alexander bowed before the High Priest and spared the city. He appointed Jewish administrators over much of his kingdom, and it was in the city of Alexandria that a grandson of Alexander’s had the Old Testament translated into Greek so the world could read it. By the way Daniel had his vision over 200 years before Alexander was born.

The first 35 verses of Daniel 11 document in advance the history of the Middle East from the death of Alexander to the arrival of the Romans in such great detail that unbelievers have spent hundreds of years trying to prove that it was written after the fact. As a result Daniel is the most historically documented book in the entire Old Testament
Controlling The Masses

World leaders have long known that the way to repress the people is to keep them ignorant. This principle was developed by Satan himself and is being used most effectively on our generation. In the early days of the church, he persuaded Gentile leaders to separate the church from its Jewish roots, ignore the Old Testament and jettison 4000 years of Jewish commentary on life in a covenant relationship with God. (As a result the Gentile world has spent much of the last 2000 years re-discovering principles of sanitation, health, and inter-personal relationships that Moses first wrote about in the wilderness.) During the Dark Ages the Bible was available only to monks in monasteries and the church itself became an instrument of incredible repression and persecution. In our century the Bible has been so thoroughly discredited by the introduction of the Documentary Hypothesis and Modern Rationalism into our seminaries that much of the Church no longer regards either Testament as being relevant to our times. And of course the elimination of even the mention of God’s name from our schools means that many in our current generation have never even seen a Bible and probably wouldn’t know where to find one, much less how to read it.

Even this was prophesied in Scripture: “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land – not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.” (Amos 8:11). Never in the history of the world has spiritual ignorance been so prevalent. It’s remarkable when you think of it, because our current state of ignorance has been created only recently. Many of our great universities, like Harvard, Princeton and Yale were founded as seminaries that subscribed to a literal interpretation of God’s word. Our public school system began in churches, and the earliest primers, used to teach children to read, were adapted from the Gospel of John. Our nation’s departure from its Christian heritage has taken place in the span of just 2 generations.

But the evidence of predictive prophecy still remains. We haven’t burned our books yet, so all you have to do to convince yourself that God exists is to pick up a few of them. Get a Study Bible, a competent volume on world history, and a reference book or two such as the Complete Works of Flavius Josephus to tie them together. Then begin reading. You’ll soon discover that by whatever standard you decide to use, rules of evidence as used by an attorney, statistical probability as used by a mathematician, or forensic logic as used by a debater, the evidence of God’s existence will become as obvious as the nose on your face. You can take His word for that: “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13).

Against the Grain
In Defense of the Faith

In ancient Roman times, if one wanted to be a good, moral, citizen, one worshipped and paid homage to the gods and to Caesar.  What initially brought the ire of the Roman government down upon the early Church was its refusal to do either.

Early Christians were labeled ‘atheists’ and ‘cannibals’ for their refusal to worship the gods and because of their adherence to the Lords’ Supper, which many thought was the actual drinking of blood and eating of flesh.  True Christianity cost you something back then.  If you were in a particular trade or guild, and you didn’t worship the god of that guild, well, you soon found yourself out of a job.

If you attended an underground church in those days (usually in a home of another believer), you could be arrested and thrown in prison for “subversive” activity.  And under the whims of certain Emperor’s such as Nero, Domitian, Marcus Aurelius, and Diocletian, you were killed in the arena for sport.

The Coliseum that we see standing today, was built under Vespasian, and finished by his son Titus.  The money that was used to fund the massive project, was money plundered from the sacking of Jerusalem.  To add insult to injury, it was then used as a symbol of Rome’s control of the masses by offering panem et circenses (bread and games) which often included the killing of Christian’s and their families to the roaring crowds of thousands.  Christians were killed by wild animals, or by gladiator.  Whole families were torn apart by lions and bears simply because they would not bend a knee to Zeus, or Caesar.

So it is becoming today, Christians once again find themselves at the wrong end of the religious spectrum.  I don’t say we are fully in that same level of persecution today, but we can definitely see the clouds forming on the horizon.  The only difference between today and the Roman times is that in today’s politically correct world, we don’t refuse the worship of Zeus or Diana, but that of the gods of tolerance and diversity.  But they represent the same things.

Tolerance in and of itself, is not a bad thing.  But when tolerance is applied theologically, in that we must tolerate all beliefs, true Christian’s must plant their battle flags.  There is only one God (Being), and He exists in three Person’s: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  We tolerate that other people have their beliefs, and we differentiate ourselves from let’s say, Muslim nations who do NOT tolerate other religions, but the toleration I am speaking of, is being applied to our belief itself, which of course would make Christianity polytheistic…which means it would no longer be Christian. (Matt 28:19-20)

Likewise, diversity in and of itself is not a bad thing.  There is neither Jew, nor Greek, slave nor free, male or female in the body of Christ. We come in from all different backgrounds and all different ethnicities to form one body, and even in that one body, we are gifted with different spiritual gifts and talents.  We are not all ears, or eyes. Some are toes and hands.  The picture painted by the Apostle Paul is one of true, cultural and physical diversity.  Yet, we all work toward one goal, and that is the glorification and exaltation of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Salvation is not found in any other name or person.  (1 Cor 12)

In fact, Christianity is unique in its simultaneous inclusivity (all may come) and also in its exclusivity, (only Jesus can save).  No other religions, belief, philosophy, etc. offers eternal salvation for simply placing one’s faith in the object of worship.  ALL other religions demand some form of works based, man-centric effort to become acceptable to said god.  Christianity recognizes the fallen-ness and brokenness of man, accepts him or her where they are, and transforms them from the inside out through the regenerating and life-giving work of the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit. (John 14:6)

I think that’s what irks the world so much about true Christianity.  It’s unwillingness to bend on areas such as the deity of Jesus Christ, the inerrancy of Scriptures, the exclusivity of salvation, final judgment, and salvation by grace through faith.  IF (and that’s a big if), Christianity could be proven wrong on any of these points, it would nullify the whole structure.  If a “Christian” denomination or branch of Christianity were to concede on any of these points, it no longer is Christianity, but some aberration of it.

Army Strong or Army Wrong

Recently, an Army Lieutenant Colonel made some astonishing and outlandish commentsabout Christians and Christian organizations in an email made available by the American Family Association.  In it, ‘hate groups’ are categorized ideologically into sub-groups:  anti-gay, anti-Muslim (misnomer really), anti-immigrant (another misnomer-as no one is opposed to legal immigration), white and black power groups, and “anti”-government groups.

In this list, the LTC equates anti-gay as being as equally intolerable as racism.  Considering that he attributes Christian groups as the biggest antagonists to the homosexual movement, does a huge disservice to those Christian African-American’s who were beaten, arrested, and killed in the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s.  Wasn’t the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. mixed up in all this?  He ignores the fact that the so-called “Religious Right” has not lobbied for legislation to segregate bathrooms, buses, water-fountains, or any other public meeting place in light of said aberrant behavior.

The so-called Religious Right has not dragged homosexuals out into the street and beat them, nor have they snatched them out of their houses in the dead of night to a lynching.  In fact, what he deems the “Religious Right”, are really just concerned Christians and families who see an onslaught of destructive legislation pointedly targeting them (and us) for destruction, and dare to speak out against it.

The areas of contention primarily have been instigated by homosexual lobbyists against traditional families, marriages, or institutions.  Anyone remember Chick Fil-A?  They’re demanding that their lifestyle be embraced by all, despite the fact that there is zero reciprocation for Christians in like manner.  We have to accept them no matter what the cost is to Biblical Christianity.  It is increasingly coming to the point, that if anyone dares question or stand up for their beliefs, they are ridiculed, marginalized, fired, and cast out.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
What I find particularly spineless about the whole email, is the blatant rejection of history and reality.  For starters, he pulls most of his resources from the Southern Poverty Law Center, in which, everyone knows is completely impartial and unbiased (JOKE).
Secondly, I don’t remember Christians flying planes into the World Trade Center or the Pentagon on 9/11.  I don’t remember a Christian shooting up a Soldier Readiness Center at Ft. Hood.  I don’t remember any Christians bombing Muslim/Hindu/Buddhist/etc churches and then beheading all who wouldn’t convert to Christianity.  What reality is this LTC living in?  Timothy McVeigh didn’t bomb the Alfred P. Murrah federal building out of his love for Jesus.  The Branch Davidian’s weren’t anymore Christian, than Jim Jones was sane.

For the entire list of so-called “Christian” hate crimes, I can quadruple the substantiated evidence conducted by atheistic, Islamic, or other terrorist attacks.  Mao Tse Tung, Joseph Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Dynasty, and Adolph Hitler all promoted a form of state-worship or atheism (the state is the god) under various flavors of a Marxist-Leninist political ideology known as Communism.  They collectively killed over 200,000,000 people.  Where is this man’s angst against Communist groups?

I believe that this LTC is using his position of authority to impose his political ideology over his subordinates, by mandating from a strictly Democratic Party platform resource and party talking points.  His notification to those under his chain of command, were they Republican, would almost immediately be violating his guidance.  As one who leans Republican, were I in his chain of command, would already be in violation of his directives.  I remember taking an oath to uphold the Constitution, not uphold Democratic talking points.  As a Christian, I am already in violation of being a rebel, because I cannot accept his cultural standards of shifting values.
"When we assumed the Soldier, we did not lay aside the Citizen." - George Washington
Biblical Perspective
Christians will continue to come into direct and indirect fire as our national community continues its slide into the moral abyss.  We will increasingly come at odds with a culture that increasingly embraces decadence, just as the early Church did when subjected to the polytheistic pantheon of gods the Greeks and Romans had.  There is coming a day, and it is here, in which true, Bible believing Christian’s can no longer ride the fence impartiality.  The world is forcing this upon us, and it will separate us as wheat is separated from the tares.
Christ, Christians, and Christianity, are considered a blight to this world.  Considering who actually runs this world, I take that as a compliment.  But we are more than a stain. We are an irritant.  That is why Jesus said the world would hate us…because it hated Him first.

The Pearl of Great Price (Matthew 13:45-46)

Pearl in Jesus' hands“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it”
Pearls are not considered Kosher to the Jews.  They are formed in an oyster due to an irritation by a foreign object.  The oyster secretes a nacre substance to cover the foreign irritant.  It does this over and over until a smooth, polished pearl is formed.  The Church which Jesus Christ Himself has built is a foreign irritant to this world and to the god of this age.  Think about that for a moment.
Be Ye Salt (Matthew 5:13)
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men”
In the days before refrigeration, salt was used as a preservative.  However, salt is also an irritant, try putting some in an open cut.  We are to be salt, not only as a preservative, but because our nature is what it is, we are an irritant to the open, bleeding, festering wound that is this fallen world.
Be Ye Light (Matthew 5:14)
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden”
Light not only provides illumination, which the Gospel does by changing lives.  But light alsoexposes that which hides in the darkness.  Evil prefers darkness, and we expose that, which again, makes us an irritant to the god of this age.

The Bible appropriately calls the gentile nations of this world, the ‘the sea’ aptly describing the unstable nature thereof.  Cultural value will shift from generation to generation.  What one generation deems inappropriate, the next embraces.

The last generation (religious and non) saw homosexuality as an abnormality.  It was even classified by the American Psychological Association (APA) as a mental disorder.  This generation embraces it as normal.  This generation views beastiality, pedophilia, incest, and polygamy as aberrant, yet given our track record, you can see where we are heading.
As pilgrims and sojourners traveling through this enemy territory, we are going to be increasingly placed in situations where we are forced to either cower, or take a stand.
We are in this world, but not of this world.  Remember that our calling isn’t to try and convert this fallen world and its institutions to become more Christian, that’s been tried before and it ends in things like the Crusades and the Inquisition.
Our calling is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.  We can’t win the hearts and minds of those who are destined for an eternal hell, the Holy Spirit does that.  We are to simply share the Good News, and live a life worthy of the calling.  As Christians, we cannot serve two masters.  Besides, we already have our orders…
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:2

EXHORTATION: "Dear Esther: "looking at some Bibles" -Rapture Ready

Hello Esther,

Your Bible advice is very uplifting. You give sound Bible based answers and a blessing to all. And because of your knowledge I am writing to ask for your help.

I would like your opinion on purchasing Bibles for my grandchildren. I would like Bibles that are true to the KJV, yet are easier to understand for my grandchildren’s age group (5, 6, 9 years old and ages 13, 15, 16 and 18).

After looking at some Bibles at my local Bible store I am a bit confused as to what is the right choice. I leafed thru a couple of teen Bibles (NIV) and really did not feel they were very Bible-based in some of the content. I’m no prude about these Bibles addressing teen issues but I just don’t think the answers were appropriate in regard to biblical principles.

My grandchildren know about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I talk to them about being saved and living a life pleasing to God (without being preachy as some would say). I am sorry to say they are not in church and will not go with me. I am very concerned for them. I believe that so many are forsaking God for the world, in what the signs of the times are pointing to these last days before the Rapture.

My seven grandchildren are all very good kids and that is not just a biased opinion from Grandma. I say prayers to God that He will draw them closer to Him (along with their parents and everyone else who isn’t saved). I am just planting a seed with giving them all Bibles.

I do not know what to think other than just about everything has become corrupt. I do not want to support a company (Zondervan), a division of Harper Collins that publishes the satanic bible. Yes, that is what I read and how true it is, I am not 100% sure as the Internet is what it is.

The Bible says that we are accountable for what we do. So I ask you, Esther what am I to do? I only want to do what is right before God and for my grandchildren. I would greatly appreciate any guidance and information you can give me.
Many Blessings, Esther,
Grammy G.

Dear Grammy,
Thank you for your encouraging words and confidence, To God be all the glory. It is true that Harper Collins does publish a satanic bible. The despicable book is posted on their website.

I think it is outstanding that you do not want to support Zondervan/Harper Collins but I would ask you to rethink this just a little bit. If we all look around our homes we can find a massive amount of “stuff” that was either produced by slave labor or by companies that strongly support abortion and a countless other ungodly things. It is going to be tough to find a Bible that is not published by a company that is not compromised in some way. Remember, these are the last days. It is supposed to be like this.

Instead of feeling defeated, beat the devil to the punch and clobber him at his own game. Grammy, consider that the wretched old fool is no doubt full-force behind these company sell-outs and figures that if the secular companies get control of the Bible publishers it will make the Christians so mad that they will stop buying Bibles. Or at least cut way down on purchases. A demonic plot to keep the lost from reading the Word of God and getting saved! So I would defiantly march into a couple of bookstores and browse the Internet and crush that slithery snake’s plans to keep you (us) from buying Bibles, even if they are published by one of the companies that are secular to the core. Things are getting so strange, I for one am glad Bibles can still be purchased. Maybe we should all start stockpiling Bibles.

As far as the very young children (ages 5 and 6) I would look for books that feature the main Bible stories so they can become very familiar with them. For the 9 year old I would consider getting something similar but with more in-depth stories. For the older children, perhaps a patriotic themed: NKJ Bible. They have beautiful pictures and American history is tied into the text and might spark the interest of the teenagers. And for the adults in your family a good New King James or New American Standard Bible would be a good choice. You are right not to get the NIV teen Bibles. I agree that they have too many issues that are problematic.

Grammy, you are a dear. God bless you for being so concerned about your loved ones. Rest assured, the Lord hears your prayers and has a watchful eye on your unsaved family and the others you pray for, too. He wishes for no one to perish. And with a praying Grandma like you, they are surely on the Lord’s redemptive radar. Every grandmother should be like you. I am glad you wrote.
In God’s love,
Esther

“We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father” (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3).
