This is a crazy time we are living in, and there are a lot of different people groups who are in vulnerable and exposed places right now. One piece of legislation that I personally believe is critical to protect is DACA, which allows for folks who are working to have a legal and protected manner by which they can get a permit. I have many people in my life who are dependent on this, and am asking all of those concerned for equality and justice to consider signing this petition protecting DACA. I've done research on this, and it is completely legit. Thank you for your consideration:
Christian Evangelical Leaders Urge President Trump to Protect DACA and Work Towards Humane Immigration Reform
As evangelical Christian leaders, we call on President Donald Trump and the 115th Congress to advance bipartisan legislation for humane immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. As a compassionate community of faith who believes in the dignity of all people, we are also calling on President Trump to protect ‘Dreamers’ under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive action. These brave young men and women who were brought to our country as children - in some cases as infants - have worked hard, paid taxes and become teachers, nurses, lawyers, and parents to a new generation of Americans.
The repeal of DACA would force thousands of immigrant youth, who worship in our pews, attend our schools, and work in our communities, back into the shadows. Made in the image and likeness of God, Dreamers are inextricably woven into the fabric of our nation and play an invaluable role in our society. We pray for both leaders and for legislation that will mitigate threats to our national security and embrace all of the undocumented immigrants who are currently contribute to this great nation.
These young immigrants are our neighbors, our brothers and our sisters. To turn our backs on them is to turn our backs on the command of the Scriptures which say, “When an immigrant resides in our land, we shall not oppress them, that we shall love them as we love ourselves.” (Leviticus 19:33-34)
Mr. President, we urge you to not repeal DACA and to instead work with Congress in furthering a bipartisan solution, the BRIDGE ACT, introduced in both the House and the Senate and co-sponsored by both Republicans and Democrats.
People of faith, of every political persuasion, have advocated for Dreamers and their families in our community and will continue to provide legal services, support, and every resource we can until they are fully protected from deportation. We advocate for the continuation of DACA and the passage of the BRIDGE Act into law as temporary measures until a humane immigration reform policy with a path to citizenship can be achieved.
